Below are hypotheses, questions and research ideas shared by attendees at our session at DPLAfest 2019.  Thanks to DPLA for hosting us!

Publishers & Libraries: Competitors or Collaborators

  • Ebook costs

Formats: Print vs. Digital vs. Audio

  • Trends in print vs. ebook vs. audiobook reading.  How should libraries, publishers and authors adapt?
  • Is there a correlation between commuting times and audiobook consumption?
  • Do some genres have a consistent reader preference for one given format?
  • Do readers that request Kindle format really need that format or is it merely name recognition?

Knowing Our Communities: Interests and Needs

  • What differences exist among ebook readers in urban, rural and suburban settings?

If This… Then That: Related Behaviors

  • Is it true that aging readers prefer paper books, e-ink devices and audiobooks?  Are there other correlations between age and ebook preferences?
  • If a reader doesn’t finish reading book when loan ends, do they buy the book?
